Our family had a busy & wonderful weekend! This was the weekend we have been waiting for since this past winter…Mitch’s All-Star weekend. This weekend was given to us from the Miracles of Mitch Foundation.
At the Miracles of Mitch Foundation, we believe kids who are fighting cancer have the courage of a warrior and the heart of a champion. Therefore, we call them Mitch’s All-Stars, and it is our mission to help every All-Star and their families during the cancer fight.
Money raised at MOMF events, including the MiracleKids Triathlon, New Year’s Eve Celebration, Miracle Open and Shoot for a Miracle, help to keep Mitch’s Pinky Swear alive.
At the MiracleKids Triathlon, every MiracleKid races in honor of an All-Star, and that’s what the theme Kids Racing for Kids Who Can’t is all about. )
MOMF is all about giving and caring for families battling cancer. We have been on the receiving end of their generosity early on in John’s diagnosis and we have been super excited about this weekend. We waited until now so John would be without his hickman and be able to swim.
The Mitch’s All-Star weekend has been planned since this past winter and when the schedule for summer lacrosse came out….yep…the same weekend there was a tournament scheduled with 3 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. This made for a very busy weekend!
Mitch’s All – Star weekends take place at the Hilton Minneapolis Hotel (I learned that this partnership with Hilton hosts up to 3 families for these weekends year round!). When we arrived we were greeted by 2 volunteers from MOMF. They took us up to our adjoining rooms. Yes Adjoining! We usually just stuff the 5 of us into one room…what a treat! On each of the beds there were gifts for the boys. We were given wristbands to Nickelodeon Universe at MOA, passes for Sea Life Minnesota and a $300 Visa gift card to be used as we wished! We were set for a great weekend!
On Friday evening we went to the mall for a quick visit, ate dinner and then headed back to the hotel for some late night swimming. Mikko loved every minute of it!
Saturday morning Mikko and I slept in while Jon and the boys headed to the breakfast buffet (compliments of MOMF) then off to lacrosse. Mikko and I slept in until 10:00, ate breakfast, hung out in the hotel room for a bit, and then grabbed a shuttle to the mall. There we rode a few rides and then headed back to the hotel to hook up with the rest of the Gegens between game 2 & 3 for the day. We all then headed to Prior Lake for game 3. Jeffrey’s team won, which meant more games on Sunday. Back to the hotel for dinner in the restaurant there and a little more late night swimming.
Sunday morning we needed to get up, pack, load the truck and head back to Prior Lake for the games. Jeffrey’s team won the first game and that meant they were in the Championship! It was a great game with the kids going into overtime, but the Raiders lost to Eagan. From there we headed back to the MOA for rides, shopping and Sea Life. Mikko loves the rides! He is at that place where the rides he used to enjoy….he’s now too big, but not quite ready for most of the rest. He does LOVE the Orange Streak roller coaster. I can’t tell you how many times we went on that! He insisted we sit in the front car and he wanted a decent picture of us. We did our best, but I think in the picture I posted my stomach was done with rides for the day! By the time our family got down to Sea Life it was pretty empty. What a perfect time to go through..no crowds…no feels of claustrophobia for me…again Mikko loved every minute of it and he even talked me into a stuffed sting ray.
By the time we got home that night we were all beat…in the best way possible….from a busy, fun-filled family weekend! Quite the contrast from last summer!
Next up for our summer fun list is for Mikko, Jeffrey and me to head up to Grandma and Grandpa Prinsen’s Cabin in Spooner. Jon and Michael are staying home to work. We haven’t been there since the summer of 2011. Mikko told me today, “I’m not getting in that lake!”. I think his brothers have been telling him the terrible itchy facts of lake itch.
I’m still learning about navigating this site and using it the best possible way I can. I haven’t had much time yet because we have been busy having fun. That’s a fabulous thing!
Happy 4th of July!
Love, Hope, & Blessings,
